New Delhi, 24 April (IANS). The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said on Thursday that the number of broadband subscribers in India has increased to 944.04 million in February.
This information was given by the government agency based on the data received from 1,189 operators.
According to TRAI data, in February, 12.06 million customers applied for mobile number portability (MNP). Since the commencement of MNP, the number of cumulative MNP applications in late January increased from 1,093.33 million to 1,105.39 million in late February.
Wireless (mobile) segment had 92.03 percent market share of private telecom companies, while two government telecom companies – BSNL and MTNL had market share of only 7.97 percent.
The total number of telephone consumers in India increased from 1,192.03 million to 1,197.23 million in February, showing a monthly growth rate of 0.42 percent.
During the same period, the number of urban telephone consumers increased from 663.83 million to 667.93 million and the number of rural telephone consumers also increased from 528.20 million to 529.31 million.
The total tele-density in India increased from 84.54 percent to 84.85 percent in late February at the end of January.
The urban tele-denseness increased from 131.40 percent to 132.01 percent at the end of January in late January and during the same period rural tele-denseness also increased from 58.38 percent to 58.48 percent.
At the end of February, the share of urban and rural consumers among the total telephone consumers was 55.79 percent and 44.21 percent respectively.
The number of machine-to-machine (M2M) cellular mobile connections increased from 63.09 million to 64.71 million in late February at the end of January.
According to TRAI data, Bharti Airtel Limited has the highest M2M cellular mobile connections, which ranks 33.86 million and have a market share of 52.33 percent, after which Vodafone Idea Limited is located.
