New Delhi, 2 July (IANS) Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday credited the strategic revival steps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government to overcome BSNL from the crisis on Wednesday, saying that the government telecommunications, which was left on ‘ventilator support’ by the previous UPA government, has left themselves on the hearts of Indian consumers.
In a special conversation with IANS on this change in BSNL, the minister said, “There was a time when BSNL was not even on ventilator support, but was on critical support.”
The Union Minister told IANS, “Prime Minister Modi decided to bring back BSNL to the country in full service. Today we are seeing the result of that commitment.”
According to BSNL’s financial data, the company recorded a net profit of Rs 280 crore in the January-March quarter of FY 2025, which is the second-profit quarter consecutively after almost two decades. This was followed by a profit of Rs 262 crore in the October -December quarter – which was the first profit for the company in 18 years.
Scindia credited this change to government support and hard work of BSNL employees across the country who are working in remote villages to the headquarters in the national capital.
The Union Minister said, “His dedication and tireless efforts have made it possible. BSNL is no longer alive, but it is flourishing.”
Many economic packages were talked about for BSNL and an amount of three lakh crore rupees was given. Along with this, all economic strategic steps were added.
Scindia said that India’s first full indigenous 4G network has now come into force in the entire country.
The minister said, “Around 95,000 sites have been installed, out of which around 90,000 have been operational and more than 74,000 are already operational.”
The Union Minister said, “BSNL is now fully prepared to serve customers with a strong, indigenous 4G network. It is not just a revival, it is a new form of BSNL’s role in India’s digital future.”
