New Delhi, May 1 (IANS). Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman thanked all the taxpayers on Thursday for the growth rate of double digits in the GST collection in April, saying it reflects the strength of the Indian economy.
Nirmala Sitharaman said in a post on social media platform X that in April 2025, the gross GST collection was Rs 2.36 lakh crore, which is 12.6 percent more than the gross collection of Rs 2.10 lakh crore in April 2024.
Similarly, in April 2025, the net GST collection reached Rs 2.09 lakh crore, which shows a 9.1 percent increase compared to a net collection of Rs 1.92 lakh crore in April 2024.
He praised the tremendous growth in GST collection, saying, “These figures reflect the strength of the Indian economy and the effectiveness of cooperative federalism.”
Nirmala Sitharaman expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the taxpayers whose contribution and faith in the GST structure has given impetus to the country’s progress. He said that his contribution reflects a shared commitment to the creation of a developed India.
He congratulated him for the dedicated efforts of finance ministers and state GST officers of all states for equally participation in the GST structure of the country.
In addition, the Finance Minister also appreciated the employees working in the Field of the Central Indirect Taxes and Customs Board (CBIC) who “tried honestly”.
Earlier, the data released by the government on Thursday stated that GST collection increased by 10.7 percent to Rs 1.9 lakh crore from domestic transactions in April and GST collection increased by 20.8 percent to Rs 46,913 crore from imported goods.
The refund amount released during April increased by 48.3 percent to Rs 27,341 crore.
