New Delhi, March 19 (IANS). The revised National Program for Dairy Development (NPDD) has been approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Also, the budget of the scheme has been increased to Rs 2,790 crore.
The scheme launched with the aim of modernizing India’s dairy sector received additional allocation under the 15th Finance Commission (2021-22 to 2025-26).
The government has increased the budget of this scheme additional Rs 1,000 crore to strengthen dairy infrastructure and improve milk production and quality.
According to the cabinet, “Revised program focuses on helping dairy farmers by improving milk, processing and quality control.”
The objective of this scheme is to provide better access to the market to the farmers, to give them fair price and promote rural development.
The scheme also includes the formation of new dairy cooperative societies and support for milk processing in remote areas, especially Northeast, hilly areas and union territories.
More than 18.74 lakh farmers have benefited from NPDD and more than 30,000 jobs have been created.
This program has also helped in increasing milk purchase capacity more than 100 lakh liters per day.
The program will also support cooperation between India and Japan through the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) to improve dairy infrastructure in nine states including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
With this amendment, NPDD aims to bring a new wave of development to the dairy sector, which will help India move towards the White Revolution 2.0.
