A rail-cum-road bridge will be built on the Ganga passing through Varanasi and Chandauli districts of Uttar Pradesh. The Union Cabinet approved the construction of this bridge on Wednesday. According to ANI news, Vaishnav said that the Malviya Bridge in Varanasi is one of the most important railway bridges on the river Ganga, which connects the northern, eastern and western states and needs to be replaced.

According to the news, the Union Minister informed that Malviya Bridge is a rail-cum-road bridge (two line rail and two lane road), which was constructed 137 years ago and the route between Varanasi and DDU Junction is oversaturated (163 percent). Is. The new rail-road bridge consisting of four railway lines and a six-lane highway bridge will be built over the river Ganga with an investment of Rs 2,642 crore.

Ashwini Vaishnav, who is also the Union Railway Minister, said the proposed multi-tracking project will ease operations and reduce congestion, thereby providing much-needed infrastructure development on the busiest line of the Indian Railways. Varanasi Railway Station, an important hub of Indian Railways, connects major regions and serves as a gateway for pilgrims, tourists and the local population.
Result of PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan
The project is an outcome of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, made possible through integrated planning and will provide seamless connectivity for movement of people, goods and services. Covering two districts of Uttar Pradesh, the project will extend the existing network of Indian Railways by about 30 kilometres.
