New Delhi, 25 June (IANS). The central government on Wednesday approved the establishment of an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) of Rs 417 crore in Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh to promote local manufacturing and innovation.
The approved EMC 2.0 project will be developed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). The cluster will be spread over 200 acres and is expected to invest Rs 2,500 crore.
The project was reviewed by Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Minister of State Jitin Prasad. The IT Ministry said in a statement that the state government has an important role in implementing the project.
Vaishnav said, “The project will create a world -class infrastructure and create 15,000 jobs. It is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s perspective to promote manufacturing in India. It reflects the government’s focus on employment generation and development of developed India.”
Authorities have been instructed to work closely with the state to ensure rapid implementation of the project. This cluster will promote manufacturing in major areas such as consumer electronics, automotive and industrial electronics, medical equipment, computer hardware and communication equipment.
In this cluster, startups and MSMEs will be able to get world-class plug-and-play infrastructure and shared facilities. This includes standard factory sheds, electricity, water arrangements, sewage treatment, hostels, skill development centers, health centers etc. This will help reduce infrastructure and logistics costs. The cluster is well connected by road, rail and air.
The ministry said that it is strategically located with the Yamuna Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the upcoming Palwal-Khurja Expressway. The site is also close to major transport centers like railway station and Jewar International Airport. Additionally, this cluster is surrounded by important industrial areas such as EMC Medical Device Park, MSME and Apparel Park and Aviation Hub.
So far, about 30,000 crore rupees have been invested in projects under the EMC scheme. EMC has attracted 520 companies, making more than 86,000 jobs.
