New Delhi, May 28 (IANS). The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the construction of a 4-lane Badvel-Nellar Corridor at the design-building-operate-transfer (DBFOT) mode at a cost of Rs 3,653.10 crore on NH-67 in Andhra Pradesh at a cost of Rs 3,653.10 crore.
This project will generate direct employment of 20 lakh human-day and indirect employment of 23 lakh human-day.
The sanctioned Badwell-Nellar Corridor will connect the important places (node) of the three industrial corridors of Andhra Pradesh. This includes the Kopparthi Node on Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), Oravacal Node on Hyderabad-Bangalore Industrial Corridor (HBIC) and Krishnapatnam Node on Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
This corridor will have a positive impact on the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) of the country.
The Budwell Nellore Corridor begins with Gopavaram village on the National Highway NH-67 in YSR Kadappa district in Andhra Pradesh and ends at Krishnapatnam Port Junction on NH-16 (Chennai-Kolkata) in SPSR Nellore district. This corridor will also provide strategic contact to Krishnapatnam port, which has been identified as a priority node under the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
The distance from the proposed corridor to Krishnapatnam port will be reduced by 33.9 km to 142 km to 108.13 km as compared to the existing Badvel-Nellore road. This will reduce the time of travel by one hour.
The government said that due to increase in economic activity in the area around the proposed corridor, this project will also create additional employment opportunities.
Apart from this, the government has approved two multitracking projects under Indian Railways in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
These projects include Ratlam-Nagada third and fourth line and Wardha-Balharshah fourth line.
The total estimated cost of projects is around Rs 3,399 crore and will be completed by 2029-30.
These projects covering four districts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 176 km.
During the construction of projects, direct employment of about 74 lakh man days will also be generated.
