New Delhi, 1 April (IANS). The Center has purchased 99.41 lakh Bell Cotton on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) directly from farmers till March 25 this year, which is part of a total of 260.11 lakh bail arrivals in the market. This information was given in Parliament on Tuesday.
Similarly, the government spent Rs 11,712 crore under MSP operation to buy cotton from farmers during the season in 2023-24.
Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margerita told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) supported the farmers and purchased 32.84 lakh bail cotton under MSP operations, which benefited about 7.25 lakh farmers in all cotton producing states.
The Minister of State for Textiles said that the government provides MSP to ‘cotton farmers’ to ensure beneficial prices and Fair Average Quality (FAU) Cotton prices protect them from crisis sales in any case of falling below MSP.
Prices of government are prevented from falling below the MSP level. The Minister of State for Textiles said that in addition, for global branding of Indian textiles, the government has registered musk cotton as the brand trademark of India to give a unique identity to premium quality Indian cotton.
Support to cotton farmers plays an important role in promoting India’s textile export development.
Listing the government’s efforts to promote textile exports, the Minister of State for Textiles said that in February this year, Textiles Export Promotion Council (EPC) supported the Ministry of Textiles had successfully organized the Global Mega Textile Event India Tex 2025. In this event, India’s capacity was displayed as a major textiles manufacturing hub, incorporating the entire value chain from raw materials to finished products.
To popularize Indian textiles in global markets and promote Indian textiles, the government is also implementing various initiatives. The PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM Mitra) Park Yojana attempts to create a modern, integrated and world-class textile infrastructure.
Similarly, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme promotes manufacturing and competition at large levels by focusing on man-maid fiber fabric, MMF Apparel and technical textile. National Technical Textile Mission pays attention to research, innovation and development, promotion and market development.
