Guwahati, 28 June (IANS). Union Minister of Coal and Mines Kishan Reddy reiterated the commitment of minerals and coal -rich northeastern states to get full support from the central government at the conference of mining ministers of the states held on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering on the second day of the program, the Union Minister emphasized on strengthening mining infrastructure, accelerating projects and promoting permanent mining practices in the region.
He said that the development of the Northeast is the center of the development of India 2047, with eight states- Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim- are celebrated as Ashta Lakshmi.
Reddy said that the center-state coordination is important to promote employment generation, attract investment and promote inclusive economic development through mineral and coal sector development.
During the conference, representatives from all eight North Eastern states presented their roadmaps to carry out mining and coal fields.
The Chief Minister of Nagaland along with ministers from Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim presented the outline of state-specific strategies, achievements and future plans.
He shared block auctions, discovery of important minerals, revival of coal mines, development of small minerals and adopting durable mining models.
In the discussions, the shared commitment to balance environmental protection measures with economic development was repeated.
During the conference, Reddy inaugurated the new Regional Office of the Bureau of India (IBM) in Guwahati. The inauguration took place in the presence of Assam Mines Minister Kaushik Rai and senior officials.
The new IBM office will play an important role in strengthening regulatory monitoring, technical assistance and convenience services in the mining sector of the North Eastern.
The two -day conference served as an important platform to connect regional mining strategies with the national agenda of sustainable development, energy security and economic change.
