Central government employees can get new higher qualifications and for this the government is encouraging. For employees pursuing higher degrees like PhD, the incentive amount is more than Rs 30,000. As per the recommendation of the Seventh Pay Commission, the Central Government employees, who acquire new higher qualifications after joining service, will be given a one-time amount of approx.
In 2019, it was decided by the Government that under all the extant orders/OMs/directives/guidelines on the subject of giving incentives for obtaining new higher qualifications, the following approx. That amount will be given.
However, incentive will not be available for the qualification prescribed as essential or desirable qualification in the Recruitment Rules for the said post. No incentive will be given for obtaining higher qualifications on purely academic or literary subjects. The acquisition of the qualification should be directly related to the functions of the post held by him or the work to be done in the next higher post. There should be a direct link between the functions of the post and the qualification earned and it should contribute to the efficiency of the Government servant.
Incentives will be given only for higher qualifications obtained after joining service and will be limited to a maximum of two times in an employee’s career, with a minimum gap of two years between successive grants.
