New Delhi, March 27 (IANS). The central government on Thursday launched the new cooperative taxi service ‘Sahakar Taxi’. It aims to provide bikes, cabs and auto service.
The launch of this cooperative taxi service will challenge apps such as Ola, Uber and Rapido dominated in online taxi market.
The move aims to provide an alternative transport service, where drivers will be able to earn directly without sharing benefits with big companies.
Announcing the initiative in Parliament, Union Home Minister and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah said, “Cooperative taxi will register two-wheeler taxis, auto-rickshaws and four wheel taxis across the country.”
Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘prosperity from cooperation’ is not just a slogan, the Ministry of Cooperation has worked day and night in the last three and a half years to realize it.
The Union Minister further stated that cooperative taxi service “in the coming months” will be launched.
Unlike private companies, this government -backed service will ensure that all the earnings remain with the drivers, which will give them more financial benefits.
The Union Cooperative Minister said, “No big industrialist will get the benefit from this service, but the drivers will get it.”
Shah said that apart from this, a cooperative insurance company will also be formed which will provide insurance services to the people in the country.
He further said that in short time, it will become the largest private sector insurance company.
The aim of the new initiative is to empower drivers. Also, passengers have to provide reliable and cost -effective transport options.
In West Bengal, a similar service called “passenger partner” is already running, which was already available only in Kolkata. Now it has also expanded in cities like Siliguri, Asansol and Durgapur.
Passenger partner also provides quick booking, local language information, affordable fare and 24 -clock customer support, making it a popular option among passengers.
Kerala was the first state in the country to start the Government Online Taxi Service ‘Kerala Riding’ in 2022. Although it has been discontinued due to low use, the state government is now planning to resume it with revised fares and better software.
