New Delhi, December 24 (IANS). The Central Government on Tuesday launched Jagriti App, Jagriti Dashboard and Jago Grahak Jago App for the protection of consumer rights on the occasion of National Consumer Day 2024.
National Consumer Day is dedicated to acknowledging the rights and needs of consumers and highlighting the significant progress made by the Department in protecting and empowering consumers in the last year.
The apps, launched by Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, aim to protect consumers from dark patterns.
During the launch at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital, the Union Minister said, “These apps will provide the Department of Consumer Affairs with the tools and resources to identify dark patterns on e-commerce platforms and will soon empower consumers with these tools.” Will be made.”
This year the theme of National Consumer Day has been ‘Virtual Hearing and Digital Access to Consumer Justice’.
The Union Minister further said in his address that virtual hearing of complaints will provide digital access to justice to consumers. This reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment in ensuring efficient and accessible justice to consumers.
‘Jago Grahak Jago App’ provides essential information about all e-commerce URLs visited during a consumer’s online activities and alerts them that a particular URL may be unsafe and requires caution.
Whereas, ‘Jagriti App’ allows users to report URLs where they suspect the presence of one or more dark patterns, which have been declared illegal.
These reports are then registered as complaints with the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) for possible redressal and subsequent action.
Additionally, CCPA will be further strengthened with the addition of ‘Jagruti Dashboard’, which will be used to generate real-time reports of e-commerce URLs when dark patterns are present.
Apart from this, the Union Minister also launched the National Legal Metrology e-Map, which enhances transparency, efficiency and accountability in governance and operations.
