Doha, December 8 (IANS). Rosneft Chief Executive Igor Sechin said sanctions imposed by the US and its allies are hurting various pillars of the global market, especially the energy sector. He said this in Doha Forum.
“Sanctions are destroying the legal system, which in turn is destroying the social sphere and ultimately the global market,” Sechin said.
The chief executive of Rosneft said, “Over the past 20 years, the number of US sanctions has exceeded 15,000, with the number of sanctions imposed on behalf of their European partners exceeding 5,000. Unfortunately, the energy sector , because of its demand and importance, has become the object of special attention and pressure.”
“The redistribution of the global energy market due to widespread sanctions, destruction of competition, long-term contracts and disruption of supply chains has added features such as price volatility, risk of shortages and false ‘green’ transition targets,” Sechin said.
Rosneft’s CEO also drew attention to the fact that political decisions along with economic background are often the main reason for the imposition of sanctions.
Citing history, he said that till the colonial period, there was no practice of hiding the economic objectives of wars, but hiding the real objectives of war completely politically and ideologically is a tradition that has not only survived, but also with the passage of time. It has taken a bigger form.
Sechin said that the First World War ‘began over the redistribution of colonies between the old colonizers and the new colonizers because the colonial powers were angry at the initial partition of the world. He said that the dramatic plundering of defeated Germany was one of the causes of the Second World War. Its main beneficiary was the United States, which derived huge economic benefits from the war-torn economy of old Europe.’
“This system, based on the complete dominance of the United States and its allies, is undergoing a painful transformation, which we are witnessing,” Sechin said.
