New Delhi, 8 June (IANS). The company’s CEO Tim Cook mourned the demise of the legendary technology company Apple, McIntosh, Quickdra and Hypercard -making engineer Bill Etkinson.
Atkinson was a very important member of the team of Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple.
Atkinson’s family posted this news on Facebook, saying that he died at his house in Portola Valley, USA.
The post stated that Atkinson’s family is survived by his wife, two daughters, step -son, step -daughter, two brothers, four sisters and his dog Popi.
Cook posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and wrote, “We are very sad with the death of Bill Atkinson. He was a true visionary person whose creativity, heart and MAC will always inspire us unprecedented work on MAC. Our sensations are with his loved ones.”
Atkinson was one of the first engineers of Apple, who joined the company in 1978 and moved in 1990. He was ‘Apple Employees No. 51’, who was admitted by Jobs.
Atkinson was the first one of the 30 team members who developed McIntosh. Along with this, he was the chief designer designing the Lisa Graphical User Interface (GUI), who was considered quite advanced at that time.
He also created a Quickdra, which made McIntosh’s graphical user interface possible and also invented menu bar, double-click and selection Lasso.
He also developed McPant and Hypercards, making computers friendly to computer users.
After leaving from Apple, he co-established General Magic, which was aimed at making a smartphone, but the company failed on a commercial basis. He later joined a “Computer Intelligence” company named Namenta in 2007.
His family said in a Facebook post that Atkinson was “a commendable person, and now the world would separate forever because he stayed in it. We wish him a meaningful journey.”
