CNG price increased by 80 paise per kg in the national capital on Friday following a record hike in natural gas prices. According to the information given on the website of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the price of CNG in the National Capital Region (NCT) has been increased from Rs 60.01 to Rs 60.81 per kg.
IGL retails CNG and piped LPG in the national capital. This is the sixth increase in CNG prices in the last one month and the overall rates have gone up by about Rs 4 per kg during this period. This increase is due to a jump in gas prices globally. IGL procures natural gas from domestic fields as well as imported LNG.
The government on Thursday raised the price of gas produced from local fields to US$6.10 per million British thermal units from US$2.9 to US$6.10. Industry sources said this has increased the cost of IGL, and a hike in prices was necessitated. The company, however, has not made any change in the price of natural gas used for cooking.
The price of CNG in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad will be Rs 63.38 per kg while in Gurugram it will be available at Rs 69.17 per kg. The price of CNG varies from city to city. This is because of the effect of local taxes like VAT (Value Added Tax).
