New Delhi, 19 April (IANS). The government on Saturday announced to organize ‘Data users’ conferences in association with Indira Gandhi Development Research (IGIDR) in Mumbai to promote evidence-based policy construction and effective governance.
The National Statistics Office (NSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MOSPI) is organizing a conference in the IGIDR campus in Goregaon (East) in Mumbai on 21 April, in line with its continuous efforts to strengthen the association with data users and other stakeholders.
Data users conference will be chaired by Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation.
About 250 participants will participate in the event, including researchers, academics, economists, industrial union, policy makers, representatives of international organizations, private survey agencies and prestigious institutions of education. Experts and members of the National Statistics Commission (NSC) and technical committees will also be present in it.
The Ministry conducts a large -scale sample survey to generate major economic indicators in important areas such as employment and unemployment, consumption expenditure and industrial statistics.
It also produces essential comprehensive economic indicators including national accounts and price indices. These data sets form the basis for evidence-based policy construction and effective governance in India.
According to the Ministry, a conference is being organized to promote dialogue between data producers and data users, promote the exchange of knowledge and discuss the latest development in the region.
Technical sessions on the National Sample Survey will provide samples design, calculation of multiples and an observation of estimates of parameters in NSS House House Survey.
The session will also highlight the major lesson from the operation of the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) for the session 2022-23 and 2023-24, which will include insights obtained from the latest data release.
In addition, the ministry said that recent changes in the periodic labor force survey (PLFS) method will be introduced to increase the understanding of users and ensure clarity in interpretation.
