New Delhi. Ola has decided to recall 1441 of its electric scooters after Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari’s inquiry into the e-scooters caught fire and the companies to take back the scooters of that batch. Apart from Ola, there were incidents of fire in scooters of Indian companies Okinawa and Pure EV also in the past few days. Gadkari had decided to investigate these incidents of fire only last month and also formed a committee of experts. Now while giving a statement on the return of its electric scooters, Ola has said that we will examine the scooters of that particular batch, so we are taking back 1441 scooters.
Petrol prices have been increasing continuously for some time now. In such a situation, the trend of people has increased in electric scooters and cars. The Modi government also wants that 80 percent of the total sales of vehicles should be electric vehicles by 2030 to reduce carbon emissions. For this, the government is also giving incentives of trillions of rupees to the companies, but due to the incidents of fire in electric scooters, this intention of the government is being affected wrongly. At present, e-vehicles have been selling only about 2%. Ola has said that it supports the EV policy.
Ola says that recalling a particular batch of scooters is a precautionary measure. Earlier, the Pure EV company had also recalled eTrans Plus and ePluto-7G models following fire incidents in its electric scooters in Nizamabad in Telangana and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The company had taken back about 2000 scooters. In Nizamabad, on April 21, an 80-year-old man had died due to a battery explosion in a scooter of the company.
