Over 400 flights were delayed due to dense fog at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Friday morning. Due to dense fog, visibility became zero in some areas of the national capital. According to PTI news, an officer gave this information. According to information available on flight tracking website Flightradar24.com, 470 flights were delayed at the airport. But no flight was diverted.
Appeal to passengers to contact the airline
According to the news, the trend of low visibility still continues at Delhi Airport. However, there has been no impact on flight operations. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said in a post at 11 am that passengers are requested to contact the respective airlines for updated flight information. In a second post at 6.35 am, DIAL said that even though landings and takeoffs will continue at the airport, flights that do not comply with CAT III may be affected.
Movement of about 1,300 flights every day
The CAT III feature allows aircraft to operate in low visibility conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said there was very dense fog at the airport and visibility was recorded at 0 metres. It said all runways are operating under CAT III, which allows aircraft to operate in low visibility conditions. Indira Gandhi International Airport, operated by DIAL, handles around 1,300 flight movements every day.
Impact on flight schedules
While appealing to the passengers, Indigo has said that the weather in Amritsar, Chandigarh and Guwahati remains almost the same, which is affecting the schedule of flights. SpiceJet has alerted passengers for January 4, 2025, saying that Delhi (DEL), Amritsar (ATQ), Jammu (IXJ), Srinagar (SXR), Ayodhya (AYJ), Varanasi (VNS), Darbhanga (DBR) and Due to expected inclement weather (poor visibility) at Patna (PAT), all departures/arrivals and their associated flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep track of their flight status.
