New Delhi, 4 May (IANS). Petroleum products in the country such as diesel, petrol and LPG consumption have seen an increase in April, which shows an increase in economic activities in the country.
According to data compiled by Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC), India’s diesel consumption in April increased to 8.24 million tonnes, which is the second most monthly consumption recorded so far. The reason for this is to increase the demand for diesel in agriculture and transport sectors during the month. In April 2024 last month, there has been an annual increase of 4 percent on the high base.
Diesel consumption increased by double digits due to election campaign for Lok Sabha elections in April last year.
Diesel accounts for about 40 percent of the total sales of fuel, and an increase in its consumption reflects high economic activity in both agriculture and logistics sectors of the economy.
Petrol consumption in April has increased by 4.6 percent to 3.44 million tonnes on an annual basis. In April last year, there was an increase of 19 percent in petrol consumption due to a strong campaign by various political parties in the Lok Sabha elections in April. This increase has occurred on a high base that shows the growing sales of vehicles in the economy.
During the last month, LPG consumption also registered an increase of 6.7 percent and the demand increased to 2.62 million tonnes. The reason for the increase in the consumption of LPG is also the Ujjwala scheme of the Central Government, due to which poor families have also reached LPG fuel. In addition, commercial consumption of fuel has also increased in hotels and restaurants.
According to the data, the consumption of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by commercial airlines in April recorded 7,66,000 tonnes, which is 3.25 percent higher than the same month of the previous year.
