New Delhi. A Delhi man bought Emami’s Fair and Handsome Cream to become fair. The man used the cream on his face and neck twice a day as per the instructions given on the label of the cream, but despite this his complexion did not become fair. Hurt by this, the person filed a case against Emami Limited Company in the consumer forum. The complainant alleged that the company is fooling people through misleading advertisements to sell its product. Consumer Forum has imposed a fine of Rs 15 lakh on Emami Limited.
The complainant had said in his application filed before the Central Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission that he purchased Fair and Handsome Cream of Emami Limited Company in the year 2013 but the claims made by the company turned out to be misleading. Forum chief Inder Jeet Singh and member Rashmi Bansal, while passing the order on December 9, said the company cannot blame the complainant for not following the instructions. The forum said that incomplete information was given on the packaging and labeling of the product. The product is intended for normal young men between the age of 16-35 years and not for sick people. Now, what is the relation with sick people, what kind of disease is meant by the company, all these things were not mentioned by the company in the instructions.
The forum said that this proves misleading advertising and unfair trade practices that such tactics were adopted to promote products and sales. Earlier in this case, in the year 2015, the District Forum had given its verdict in favor of the complainant, but the Delhi State Consumer Commission had again sent the case to the Consumer Forum and after a thorough investigation, asked to take action on which the Forum is now Has given the verdict.
