New Delhi, March 22 (IANS). According to the information given by the central government on Saturday, to promote agricultural exports, 30 MT (MT) GI-tag jaggery from western Uttar Pradesh was sent to Bangladesh for export.
The flag hoisting ceremony was organized on 30 January 2025 by the Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) under APEDA.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the initiative is a symbol of the beginning of direct export of jaggery to Bangladesh from western Uttar Pradesh through farmers producing organizations (FPOs) and farmer producing companies (FPCs).
Shamli MLA Prasanna Chaudhary highlighted the better quality of jaggery produced in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli, which is in great demand in international markets.
He thanked APEDA for continuous cooperation in making exports facilitated and emphasized the importance of cooperation of the state government in maintaining quality standards for global competition.
Underlining the vision of Abhishek Dev, President of APEDA, BEDF Joint Director Dr. Ritesh Sharma emphasized the need to empower the FPO for direct agricultural exports, which gives more benefits to the agricultural community.
The Brijnandan Agro Farmer Producer Company (FPC) has 545 members, including two female directors. FPC was formed in 2023.
FPO sees the work of exporting jaggery, sugarcane products, basmati rice and pulses.
Members with training and technical assistance from BEDF are well equipped to meet international production and export standards.
The ministry said, “With the support of APEDA, this is the third success story of the FPO of Western Uttar Pradesh in agricultural exports, before that in 2023 and 2024, Basmati rice was exported to Lebanon and Oman by Neer Adarsh Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited in 2023 and 2024.
In particular, it is the only FPO in Uttar Pradesh, which has received financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh under the state’s agricultural export policy.
This initiative is an important step towards Uttar Pradesh to expand agricultural export opportunities, empower farmers and ensure a sustainable and profitable future for India’s agricultural sector.
