From 1 April, 2023 to March 31, 2024, 98.40 lakh foreigners came to India.
If the new Immigration Bill (India Immigration Bill) is approved by the country’s Parliament, it is going to be very expensive to use lattice passport or visa to enter India, live or exit. According to PTI news, a provision has been made in this bill to impose a jail sentence of up to 7 years and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh. The bill provides for necessary information about foreigners by hotels, universities, other educational institutions, hospitals and nursing homes, so that foreigners living for more than the scheduled period can be monitored.
They have to be given information in advance
According to the news, all international airlines and ships will also have to present advance information of passengers and crew aboard the passengers and crews riding on other means of transport at a port or place in India. According to the bill (Bill) presented in the Lok Sabha on March 11, any person who deliberately uses a fake or fraud passport, travel document or visa or supplies to enter, live or exit India, will be sentenced to at least two years, which can be extended for seven years, and will also be fined.
Foreigners can get punishment then
The new Immigration Bill also states that any foreign national who enters any area of India without a valid passport or travel document, including the required visa, will have to face a fine of up to five years, a fine of up to five lakh rupees or both. The latest data of the Union Home Ministry states that 98.40 lakh foreigners came to India from April 1, 2023 to 31 March 2024.
There will be help in monitoring foreigners’ activities
Giving information, an official said that this bill will help address the issue of illegal immigration in India and keep an eye on the activities of foreigners who have been over time than the scheduled period. This compliance will also help in reducing the burden. Indian missions or posts abroad can release foreigners in physical or stickers format of categories, while the Bureau of Immigration issues electronic visas to citizens of 167 countries in seven categories.
