How much increase was recorded in the average income of farmers?
Kisan Diwas: Today is the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the fifth Prime Minister of India. Chaudhary Charan Singh, the veteran farmer leader who raised the voice of all the small farmers of the country, was born on this day i.e. on 23 December 1902 in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. Every year 23 December is celebrated as National Farmers Day in India to pay tribute to farmer leader Chaudhary Charan Singh. Today on the occasion of Farmers Day, we will know how much the income of Indian farmers has increased in the last 10 years?
NSSO had conducted a survey
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Arjun Munda had released important data related to the income of farmers in February this year. The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI) conducted the survey of agricultural households in rural areas of the country during the 77th round of NSS (January 2019 – December 2019) in the context of the agricultural year July 2018 – June 2019. Conducted Situation Assessment Survey (SAS). A similar survey was also conducted by NSSO during the 70th round of NSS (January 2013-December 2013) in the context of agricultural year July 2012-June 2013.
How much increase was recorded in the average income of farmers?
According to SAS results, the average monthly income of Indian farming households during 2018-19 was Rs 10,218. Whereas, during 2012-13, the average monthly income of Indian families engaged in farming was Rs 6426. The Central Government has made necessary changes and reforms in many policies to increase the income of farmers and make their lives happy. Along with this, the government has also started many new schemes keeping in mind the interest of the farmers.

The schemes are yielding excellent results
Arjun Munda had shared all this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha in February 2024. Due to these efforts of the government, the Gross Value Added (GVA) of agriculture and allied sectors has increased, registering an average annual growth rate of 4 percent in the last 5 years. Since the launch of these schemes of the government, excellent results have been achieved with the objective of increasing the income of farmers.
