Rio de Janeiro, 6 July (IANS). Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held meetings with BRICS counterparts and during this time issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed. This information went to the official government statement.
In his meeting with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov during a meeting of BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, Finance Minister Sitharaman discussed the long-term partnership of India-Russia.
According to the post of Finance Ministry on social media platform ‘X’, Finance Minister Sitharaman also thanked for the support given by President Vladimir Putin after the Pahalgam terror attack.
The ministry said, “The Union Finance Minister said that the level of mutual trust and understanding between India and Russia is commendable and our special and privileged strategic partnership remains strong and firm.”
He congratulated Russia for the successful chairmanship of BRICS in 2024 and said that India will continue to take advantage of the BRICS platform to create South-South cooperation in areas of common interests.
He also discussed the various initiatives started in BRICS recently.
The two sides also discussed matters of bilateral cooperation including cooperation in the financial sector and the matters related to the New Development Bank (NDB).
Finance Minister Sitharaman met Brazil’s Finance Minister Fernando Haddad and interacted on issues of mutual interests including South-South cooperation, promoting global South voice, COP 30 and climate finance issues and regional and global forums like Climate Finance issues and the UN, G20, BRICS, WTO and IBSA.
Appreciating the intense work done by Brazil during the chairmanship of BRICS, the Finance Minister said that India supports the agenda and priorities set by Brazil and hopes that this cooperation will be carried forward when India headed in January 2026.
Finance Minister Sitharaman said that India and Brazil share warmth and cordial relations in many areas as strategic partners and are working together in many areas to further strengthen strategic partnerships.
In his meeting with China’s Finance Minister Lan Foan, the Finance Minister emphasized that India and China are in a unique position to pursue inclusive global development and innovation, as both countries are the world’s largest and fastest growing economies.
According to the ministry, the Finance Minister said that India and China can strengthen cooperation in many areas due to common rich human capital, deep civilization and increasing economic impact.
The Finance Minister suggested that intensive involvement between the two countries can help increase the voice of developing economies and shape the global erection.
