Navi Mumbai, December 29 (IANS). Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on Sunday completed the first commercial flight validation test ahead of the commercial launch next year as early as 2025. For this, Indigo Airlines’ A320 aircraft successfully landed on the runway.
The flight test conducted on Runway 08/26 was monitored by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airports Authority of India (AAI), Customs, Immigration, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Maharashtra Municipal and Industrial Development Corporation Limited (CIDCO), India. The meeting was conducted by senior officials of the Meteorological Department (IMD), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) as well as Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and other key stakeholders.
Arun Bansal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Adani Airport Holdings Limited, said, “This is an important day for Navi Mumbai International Airport. The successful completion of the validation flight is a great achievement and we are now one step closer to operationalizing the airport. We are grateful to DGCA and all the agencies for making the validation flight trials a success. “It will also support the development of the area.”
The successful landing of the commercial flight confirms the smooth operation of instrument approach procedures at Navi Mumbai International Airport. The exercise included technical evaluation, landing and take-off. This paves the way for the DGCA to validate the data collected from the flight and for the NMIA to obtain the airport license, which is required to operate the airport.
Following a successful landing, NMIA’s established flight procedures will be published in the Electronic Aeronautical Information Publication (EAIP) for international promulgation.
Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (NMIAL) has been formed to develop, construct, operate and maintain the greenfield international airport project in Navi Mumbai. NMIAL is part of Adani Airport Holdings Limited and is 74 percent owned by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) and 26 percent owned by CIDCO. CIDCO is a Government of Maharashtra undertaking.
