New Delhi, 8 June (IANS). Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that under the leadership of the Modi government, the country is moving rapidly in the field of manufacturing to defense.
In an article written in the Economics Times, the Union Minister said that after 2014, India’s defense sector has been rapidly modernized and defense exports have increased. This change has not happened suddenly, but has been due to reforms under the self -sufficient Bharat Mission launched by PM Modi. These include defense acquisition process, defense production and export incentive policy and 100 percent FDI changes in some areas, which have helped domestic companies to flourish.
Puri said that manufacturing in the vision of Modi government has always been at the center and continuous efforts are being made to increase the manufacturing sector in the country. Under this, the government is offering incentives to encourage semiconductor manufacturing in countries.
Tata Electronics is building a semiconductor assembly and testing plant in Assam at a cost of Rs 27,000 crore, which is expected to be operational by mid -2025 and create about 27,000 jobs. At the same time, a semiconductor unit is being set up in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh at a cost of Rs 3,706 crore from the joint venture between HCL and Foxconn, which will focus on the display driver chips and will start production in 2027.
Apart from this, the Union Minister said that under the vision of ‘Sarvodaya through Antyodaya’, public welfare schemes are running, with the help of which 25 crore people have been successful in removing poverty.
Puri further spoke about the public welfare schemes of the government and said that more than Rs 3.68 lakh crore has been distributed to about 11 crore farmers under the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan). At the same time, ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative has enabled more than one crore rural women to get an annual income of more than one lakh rupees. About 3 crore houses have been approved under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
At the same time, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has been expanded, so that all the citizens aged 70 and above can be provided free health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per year, irrespective of their income. About 6 crore senior citizens are expected to benefit from this.
