New Delhi, 23 March (IANS). The fugitive Mehul Choksi living in Belgium is now planning to go to Switzerland. Earlier it was believed that he was living in Antigua and Barbuda, but now, according to a media report, he was living in Antwerp, Belgium with his wife Preeti Choksi after receiving the ‘F Residency Card’.
Let us know that fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi has allegedly involved in a bank loan scam of Rs 13,500 crore in India. According to a report, the Government of India has now demanded extradition of Choksi from Belgium. However, Indian officials have not yet confirmed the report.
According to the report, Mehul Choksi used fake documents and incorrect information to get an F Residency card in Belgium to avoid being extradited to India. He was successful in getting this card from the Belgium Government, hiding his Indian and Antigua citizenship. After receiving the F Residency card, he has got the permission to stay in Belgium and roam in Europe.
The report also claimed that Choksi plans to go to a famous cancer hospital in Switzerland for treatment. Mehul Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are accused of scam of Rs 13,500 crore through fraud from Punjab National Bank (PNB).
It is noteworthy that Nirav Modi is currently in a London jail and has filed a case in court against extradition to India.
In December 2024, a special court in Mumbai allowed the sale of Choksi properties seized from 2018 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The total price of these properties is Rs 2,565.9 crore, which was seized on the court’s order with the support of Punjab National Bank and ICICI Bank.
Sales of these properties have started, with assets worth more than Rs 125 crore- Flats and SEEPZ in Mumbai, two factories in Andheri, Gitanjali James Limited have been handed over to the liquidator. The allegations against Choksi include criminal conspiracy, betrayal, fraud, property transactions fraud, corruption and money laundering.
