In the current marketing session 2025-26, the government procurement of wheat has so far increased to 2.86 million tonnes, which is higher than last year. This information has been received from the data released by the government on Friday. According to official data, the government procurement of wheat so far is the highest after the 2022-23 marketing session. Let us tell you that this year a record 11.53 million tonnes of wheat is expected to be produced. In the marketing session 2024-25, the government bought a total of 2.66 million tonnes of wheat. So far, government procurement of wheat is behind the target of 3.12 million tonnes set for 2025-26 seasons.
These states including Punjab, Haryana buy the most wheat
Although the wheat marketing session runs from April to March, a large part of the purchase takes place in the first three months. Government -owned Food Corporation of India (FCI) and other agencies purchase wheat at the minimum support price (MSP) for central pools. FCI data shows that the five major states who bought wheat- Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have bought more wheat in the current session compared to last year.

Punjab has bought 1.15 million tonnes till May 16, Madhya Pradesh 74 lakh tonnes, Haryana 70.1 lakh tonnes and Rajasthan has bought 16.4 lakh tonnes of wheat. Statistics show that about 22.7 lakh farmers have been paid a minimum support price (MSP) of about Rs 62,346.23 crore on wheat procurement. Wheat harvesting has been completed in states like Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. On the other hand, the harvesting of wheat in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has not been completely completed and it will take some more time.
