Wheat
The central government on Thursday stabilized the wheat storage limit for wholesale vendors, retailers and processing to keep prices under control. The government also said that there is adequate store of food grains in the country. The harvesting of a new crop of wheat starts from the end of March. The government said that as per the revised storage limit that remained implemented till March 31, traders/wholesalers can keep only 250 tonnes of wheat. According to the earlier criteria, the limit was 1,000 tonnes. The storage problem for retailers has been reduced from five tons to four tons.
Information will have to be given every Friday
An official statement said, “To keep the prices of wheat under control, the central government has decided to modify the storage limit of wheat implemented by March 31, 2025.” The storage range for the outlet will be four tons. Similarly, wheat processing can keep 50 percent of the monthly installed capacity (MIC) by April 2025. It is necessary to register all the units storing wheat on the wheat reserves limit portal and every Friday it is necessary to give information about the status of the store. The Food and Public Distribution Department said that it is keeping a close watch on the situation of wheat reserves to control prices in the country and ensure availability.
Edible oils increase
On the other hand, due to the price of indigenous oil-oilseeds being low than the MSP, the farmers showed strength in the domestic oil-oil-domestic market on Thursday. The Malaysia exchange has a slight decline while the Chicago Exchange is also in the rise. Market sources said that the farmers are bringing small quantities to the mandis amidst the price of indigenous oil-oils being reduced by the MSP. Its consumption is affected due to the cost of sunflower in the country. Similarly, the price of pamoline oil is more than mustard, soybean. In such a situation, there is pressure on cottonseed oil and this oil demand is increasing among the salty companies.
