Unemployment remains a matter of concern in the country. The government’s skill training to the youth is also not proving effective in reducing unemployment. Government statistics show that since 2015, more than 1.6 crore youths have been trained in the whole of India under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). However, only 24.3 lakh youth have got employment. This number is less than 15% of the number of total youth trained. Skill Development Minister Jayant Chaudhary gave this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The Union Minister said that placement tracking was done under the first three phases of PMKVY (2015-2022). He said that the current phase (PMKVY 4.0) is more focused on empowering candidates to choose a diverse career. Under this, it helps through platforms like Skill India Digital Hub.
What are the analysts saying
This platform connects trained individuals with potential employers and trained youth with employment. Employment fairs and national appointment fairs provide additional placement assistance. However, the results of employment are still minor. Between 2015 and 2022, out of 56.89 lakh certified candidates in short -term training (STT), only 24.3 lakhs received placements, which is about 43%. Exploators say the low employment ratio reflects a continuous difference between training curriculum and industry requirements. The government has accepted the need to make skill development in accordance with local demand and industry trends. It has also launched skill interval studies and state-specific training programs at the district level.
How much amount in which scheme?
To promote self-employment, the youth are being linked to financial schemes like Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (Rs 35.13 lakh crore sanctioned), Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana (Rs 3,920 crore) and DAY-NULM (Rs 8,775 crore to about 9.8 lakh urban poor). Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh are pioneer in both training enrollment and loan assistance. Efforts to improve sculpture results include training, training at workplace, national loan structure and regular third party evaluation through recognized centers. The third party assessment of PMKVY 4.0 is currently underway for the guidance of policy reforms.
