The government has got great success in the GST collection.
The GST collection increased to an all -time high of Rs 2.37 lakh crore last month. The government released its figures on Thursday. GST collection speed was recorded at 12.6 percent, the highest in 17 months. According to the news, in April 2024, the GST collection was ₹ 2.10 lakh crore. This is the second largest Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection since the implementation of indirect tax system on 1 July 2017. The same collection in March 2025 was ₹ 1.96 lakh crore.
GST revenue also increased rapidly
According to the data, GST revenue increased by 10.7 percent to about ₹ 1.9 lakh crore due to domestic transactions. Revenue from imported goods increased by 20.8 percent to ₹ 46,913 crore. In April, the amount of refund issuing increased by 48.3 percent to ₹ 27,341 crore. After adjusting the refund, the net GST collection increased by 9.1 percent to more than Rs 2.09 lakh crore in April.
According to the report, the GST collection was Rs 1.77 lakh crore in December, which is an increase of 7.3% year-on-year. This was less than an 8.5% increase in November, which led to a decrease in consumption after the festive season. In the budget, the government estimated an increase of 11% in GST revenue, in which there was an estimated collection of Rs 11.78 lakh crore including central GST and compensation cess.
Rules for GST Appellate Tribunals were notified
The government has notified the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tax Appellate (Procedure) Rules a few days ago, in which a compulsory e-filing and mixed hearing of applications has been made. It also provides that if the applicant files a very necessary case before 12 noon and if the application is complete in all cases, he will be listed before the Appellate Tribunal on the next working day itself. In some exceptions, the application made before 12 noon with the special permission of the Appellate Tribunal or Chairman can be listed the next day.
