New Delhi, 14 June (IANS). Along with taking the name of steel business, the first name that comes in the mind is Lakshmi Niwas Mittal. The son of an ordinary person running a steel mill, who worked as a trainee in the mill, is famous worldwide today as Steel King. India -born Mittal completed his education in the country itself and today lives in the United Kingdom with his family.

Mittal, who came to the list of the top 10 rich of the world at one time, is the 75th birthday on Sunday, June 15. Let’s know, the journey from his common man to become a global steel king …

Lakshmi Niwas Mittal was born in 1950 in Sadulpur, Rajasthan. In the 1960s, Mittal’s family moved to Kolkata, where his father used to run a steel mill. Mittal worked at the mill while studying science at St. Xavier’s College. After graduation, he worked as a trainee in the mill.

He moved to Indonesia in 1976, where he established a small steel company, which is today known as Arcelor Mittal, the world’s second largest steel manufacturer.

In 2004, Mittal Steel was established after the Merder of Steel International and LNM Holdings and the International Steel Group simultaneously. Soon after, in 2006, Mittal Steel began a bid for merger with the Arcelor, which led to the creation of Arcelor Mittal.

He was also honored with several awards for steel development. In 1996, he was awarded the ‘Willy Corf Steel Vision Award’ by New Steel in the United States by New Steel in ‘Steelmaker of the Year’ in 1998 and World Steel Dynamics for entrepreneurship, leadership and success in Global Steel Development. He was named ‘International Newsmaker of the Year’ in 2004 by the ‘International Newsmaker of the Year’ by the Fortune magazine’s ‘European Businessman of the Year’ and Sunday Times for his outstanding commercial achievements. In 2006, he was named ‘Person of the Year’ by the Financial Times. In January 2007, Mittal was awarded Fellowship from King’s College London, the highest award of the college.

In January 2008, Mittal was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian honor by the President of India.

Mittal is identified today as a famous global businessman and is working on the board of various advisory councils. In addition, they are philanthropic individuals active in the field of education and child health. Apart from his role in Arcelor Mittal, Mittal is an active partner of various boards and advisory councils. He is the chairman of the board of Eparum and a member of the Board of Goldman Sachs.

Lakshmi N. Mittal became the executive chairman of Arcelor Mittal in February 2021. Earlier, he was the Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal.
