New Delhi, 15 June (IANS). Aviation expert Dr. Subhash Goyal said on Sunday that the cause of crashes of helicopter in Gaurikund area of Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand was bad weather. There is no flaw of a pilot or helicopter.
Talking to the news agency IANS, Goyal said, “This is the month of rain, due to which the weather is bad and the same will remain till September. The crashed helicopter was ‘Bell Helicopter’, which is very safe.”
He further said, “This helicopter goes from Guptkashi to Kedarnath and returns from Kedarnath to Guptkashi and was running a very experienced pilot, which had also served in military.”
Goyal said, “I think there was no mistake of helicopter and pilot in it. This incident happened only due to weather. Before the incident, the pilot gave the message that due to bad weather, I am turning helicopter but then it has become an accident.”
The helicopter going from Kedarnath Dham to Guptkashi crashed in a wild area near Gaurikund in the morning and all seven people aboard have died.
The helicopter flew to Guptkashi at 5:17 am and was returning from Kedarnath with passengers, when the path lost due to bad weather in Kedarnath Valley.
Officials confirmed that the weather in the area was very bad, due to which the helicopter lost its way and became an accident.
After the helicopter accident, Chief Minister Dhami directed the Chief Secretary to form a committee of technical experts on Sunday. This committee will make a comprehensive review of all the safety and technical aspects of heli operations and draft the new SOP. This will ensure that helicopter services are operated with complete security, transparency and compliance with all the prescribed norms.
