New Delhi. Opposition parties including Congress continuously attack the Modi government regarding GST. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi even named GST as Gabbar Singh Tax and claims that GST rates will be made uniform if the opposition government is formed at the Centre. Opposition parties including Congress also accuse the Modi government of increasing unemployment and high inflation. Opposition parties also continuously make allegations that the purchasing power of the people has reduced. Amidst all these allegations, for the first time an income of Rs 2 lakh crore has been generated from GST. This means that people have made huge purchases in April.
According to government data, for the first time after the implementation of GST, its figure has crossed Rs 2 lakh crore. In this way GST has created history. Government figures show that the government earned revenue of Rs 2.10 lakh crore through GST in April. There was also a significant increase of 12.4 percent in the GST gross revenue of April on an annual basis. At the same time, the net revenue after refund also stood at Rs 1.92 lakh crore. In this way, there has been an increase of 17.1 percent year on year. Before this, GST has recorded higher revenue figures many times. With the continuous increase in GST, the government also gets money to run welfare schemes.
Modi government had implemented GST. Earlier, along with VAT, people had to pay separate taxes of the central and state governments. Apart from this, there were different tax rates in the states. At the same time, under GST there is a uniform rate on goods across the country. This means that people do not get things at higher or lower prices at some places. At the same time, VAT is applicable only on petrol, diesel and cooking gas. By imposing VAT, state governments get additional tax money.
