Let us tell you that Dhananjay Singh was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the MP-MLA court of Jaunpur in a case of kidnapping and extortion. Dhananjay had applied for bail in Allahabad High Court demanding stay on the sentence, from where he got bail on April 27. However, the High Court did not stay his punishment. Even before bail, he was transferred from Jaunpur Jail to Bareilly Central Jail. After which he was released today.
It is noteworthy that Namami Gange project manager Abhinav Singhal, resident of Muzaffarnagar, had filed a case against Dhananjay Singh at Line Bazar police station in Jaunpur on May 10, 2020, accusing him of kidnapping and demanding extortion. In the complaint given to the police, it was alleged that Dhananjay’s acquaintance Vikram Singh had kidnapped Abhinav Singhal and taken him to the former MP’s residence where extortion was demanded from Abhinav. In the same case, Dhananjay was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment. With this, Dhananjay Singh, who himself had decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Jaunpur, had his plans dashed. After this, BSP gave ticket from Jaunpur to Dhananjay’s wife Shrikala.
