Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold a press conference on this at 5 pm. Earlier, Uttarakhand Finance Minister Premchand Aggarwal had said in the afternoon that no decision has been taken on Monday on whether 18% GST should be imposed on card payments up to Rs 2000. The proposal has been sent to the Fitment Committee. According to the information, 18 percent GST is being charged on payments up to Rs 2000 by debit or credit card. The proposal states that this will be the fee to be paid to the payment gateway.
Religious helicopter travel to become cheaper
Uttarakhand Finance Minister Premchand Agarwal said in a statement to the media that the issue of GST research and development will also be sent to the Fitment Committee, now this committee will consider the card transactions and submit a report to the government. Apart from this, Agarwal said that in the meeting it has been decided to reduce the GST on religious helicopter travel from 18% to 5%.
More than 80 per cent paid less than Rs 2,000
According to information, more than 80 percent of the total digital payments in India are less than Rs 2000. According to records, after the government notification issued during demonetization in 2016, payment aggregators are not charging any service tax from merchants on such transactions. The proposal to impose 18 percent GST on card payments up to Rs 2000 is being continuously opposed. The government has also sought support on this from payment gateways (Pine Labs, Paytm, Razorpay, Cashfree, BillDesk and CCAvenue) etc.
