New Delhi, 3 June (IANS). To carry forward the ‘Corporate Governance Excellence’ and ‘Sustainable Development’ at Northst, the Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) on Tuesday announced to set up its first regional campus in the region.
Under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the IICA formally acquired five acres of land at the New Shillong Township of Meghalaya for its first Regional Campus.
Supported by investment of Rs 100.95 crore under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative (PM-Day) for the North Eastern Region, Shillong Campus will serve as a regional hub for special training, research, policy advisory in major areas.
Donald Philips Wahlang, Chief Secretary, Meghalaya Government, expressed the state’s commitment to the knowledge-lead growth and highlighted the strategic place of the IICA Campus within the Knowledge City Cluster.
The region already has iconic institutions like IIM Shillong, National Law University Meghalaya and NIFT.
He also stated that a new airport will soon be developed in Shillong, which will significantly increase regional connectivity and make access to campus for professionals, teachers and students from all over India.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, this infrastructure development will further strengthen the emerging position of Shillong as a major educational and policy center in the Northeast.
IICA Director General and CEO Dnyaneshwar Kumar Singh described this moment as historic and described Shillong Campus as a symbol of decentralization and empowerment outside Delhi.
He emphasized the role of the new campus in promoting entrepreneurship, capacity building and good governance, in line with national priorities such as Ease-off Doing Business, Self-reliant India and developed India in 2047.
Referring to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Rising Northeast initiative, Singh said that the Prime Minister has continuously promoted the Northeast as Ashtalakshmi of India, which is a region rich in diversity, talent and capacity.
Deepti Gaur Mukherjee, secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, said that this partnership reflects the vision of the center of empowering the Northeast as a development engine.
