Geneva, 11 June (IANS). India has achieved a historic achievement by registering a 45 percent increase in social security coverage for population in the last decade. The reason for this, the International Labor Organization (ILO) has given India a second place in its world dashboard.
According to ILO’s data, India’s social security coverage has increased from 19 percent in 2015 to 64.3 percent in 2025. Now 94 crore people in the country have social security coverage.
The International Labor Organization has considered it a major achievement of India and officially published on its dashboard that 64.3 percent of India’s population or more than 94 crore people now come under at least one social security benefit.
The Director General of ILO praised India’s focused welfare policies for the poor and working class under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On the occasion of the International Labor Conference (ILC), India’s Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandavia, while discussing bilateral discussion with ILO Director General Gilbert F Hongbo, spoke about the poor-interest and labor welfare schemes launched by the Modi government in the last 11 years.
The Union Minister also informed the Director General of ILO about the social security data pooling exercise at the national level, which is run by the government in collaboration with the ILO.
Mandavia said, “This achievement is a proof of the tireless efforts of the government in the creation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership and inclusive and right-based social security ecosystem. This growth shows the fastest expansion in social security coverage around the world, which shows the firing of the government towards the ‘Antyodaya’ i.e. ‘Antyodaya’ i.e. the last person to fulfill the promise to fulfill the promise to fulfill the last person.”
