Announcement of aid of Rs 30 billion for Maldives
India has once again shown a big heart and has come forward to help its neighbor and Islamic country Maldives. India on Monday signed a currency swap agreement worth $400 million with the aim of building better relations with Maldives. India also agreed to increase cooperation for the construction of ports, road networks, schools and housing projects. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu also launched RuPay card in Maldives. Apart from this, inaugurated the new runway at Hanimadhu International Airport and agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Let us tell you that last year the relations between the two countries had turned sour. Muizzu, who was on a four-day state visit, met Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House. The two countries also agreed on ‘a vision for a comprehensive economic and maritime security partnership’. This is a document that covers different aspects of cooperation. Following the talks, India also handed over 700 social housing units to Maldives. It has been constructed under the buyer loan facility of Exim Bank (Export-Import Bank of India).
