Stockholm, 12 June (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that the proposed comprehensive and meaningful India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) reflects collective commitment for a strong economic relationship and the future of inclusive development.
In addition to the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise at the India-Sweden High-Level Trade and Investment Policy Forum, Union Minister Goyal discussed the immense possibilities of cooperation between the two sides in the presence of major Swedish and Indian businesses.
Union Minister Goyal said, “The joint letter released on the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement during the program shows our collective commitment for a strong economic relationship and the future of inclusive development.”
He added, “India-Sweden partnership is a model of how two diverse economies can create mutual benefits through shared approaches and cooperation. These discussions are expected to be converted into concrete opportunities.”
Union Minister Goyal also met Tetra Pack Sweden’s Managing Director Marai Sandin and exchanged ideas on increasing cooperation in sustainable packaging solutions.
He posted on the social media platform X, “Also discussed opportunities to expand research and development initiatives in India and strengthen capabilities in advanced equipment manufacturing.”
Union Minister Goyal also met the Swedish Business Leaders at the dinner reception organized by the Sweden-India Business Council and the Indian Embassy, where he highlighted important investment opportunities in India.
The Union Commerce Minister said, “India has made great progress in technology, innovation and research and development with the strength of its skilled and talented workforce. Encouraged Swedish businesses to find out opportunities in India, which have immense possibilities to cooperate and promote mutual growth.”
In addition, Union Minister Goyal also addressed the concluding session of the India-Swedish Joint Commission’s ministerial meeting for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation with International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Minister Benjamin Dausa of Sweden. He highlighted how the exchange of capital, talent and technology is the backbone of our economic partnership.
