New Delhi, 5 July (IANS). Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said that India’s toy industry, which once depended highly on imports, is now manufacturing domestically and exporting to 153 countries.
Addressing the 16th ‘Toy Bij International B2B Expo 2025’, Union Minister Goyal said that this change has been continuously possible through policy support, enforcement of quality standards and strengthening the local manufacturing cluster.
He said that the implementation of the Quality Control Order (QCO) has helped India to make quality conscious countries and enabled domestic toy manufacturers to meet global norms.
The Union Minister further stated that India’s 1.4 billion population provides a huge captive market, which creates a natural benefit to increase manufacturing. With this scale, industry can achieve cost efficiency and can become globally competitive.
He said that the big domestic market not only supports expansion but also works as Aadhaar for international development.
He informed that the government is preparing to launch a new incentive scheme for the toy sector. The scheme aims to help to help them become world class by increasing the design capabilities of Indian toy manufacturers, ensuring quality manufacturing, strengthening packaging and supporting brand construction.
Union Minister Goyal emphasized the need to focus on good branding, attractive packaging and strong product design to come forward in the global market.
He said that if these three aspects are given priority, then Indian toys can get strong appeal in international markets.
He reminded that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, many people saw it with suspicion, because foreign products dominated the consumer’s choice. However, awareness and support for domestic industries has increased continuously under the vision of ‘self -sufficient India’ and belief that local can be global.
Union Minister Goyal said that startups developing innovative concepts of toys have received significant support through the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, which has now been extended by 20 years.
He said that this has ensured access to colletteral-free loans for small businesses. Also, 18 toy clusters across the country have been supported by the Ministry of MSME to promote domestic production.
