Bengaluru, 7 March (IANS). Indian tech startup ecosystem is now in second place after the US in terms of all-time funding collected by women founders with women founders. A latest report released on Friday stated that a total of $ 26 billion has been raised in the region so far.
There are more than 7,000 active women -led startups in India, which is 7.5 percent of all active startups in the country.
According to data from major startup research and analytics firm Traxon, these startup collectively raised $ 26.4 billion, with $ 6.3 billion funding with 2021 the most funding year.
Bengaluru is at the forefront of both women-run startups and the total funding collected so far, followed by Mumbai and Delhi-NCR.
Globally, the highest funding from Indian startups in 2022 was 15.18 percent. That year, women -led startups in India raised $ 5 billion globally as compared to $ 32.8 billion.
In 2024, India finished third after the US and UK in terms of funding by women co-exclusively, which is 3.96 percent of the funding raised by women-led startups worldwide.
The retail field takes a strong lead based on the investment raised by women -led startups, which has achieved $ 7.8 billion funding so far. Edtech ($ 5.4 billion) and enterprise applications ($ 5 billion) are just behind it.
The report said that in particular, all sectors such as B2C e-commerce, internet-first brand and fashion tech are seen to be seen in the co-degeneration of many startup women.
The highest number of women -led startups were recorded in 2021, with 45 acquisitions. However, in 2022 the number declined by 20 percent to 36 and in 2023 declined by 30.5 percent to 25.
In 2024, the number of acquisitions decreased to 16. The report said, “These startups are not only achieving mass funding, but also defined industries, generating employment and setting new standards for future entrepreneurs.”
Although the Startup Ecosystem still has to go a long way to bridge the gap of gender based funding, these leading startups are proving that women -led startups are carrying forward the development story of India.
