The Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Saturday notified that India has banned direct or indirect imports from Pakistan with immediate effect. The notification stated that a new provision has been added to the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, which will be implemented immediately. The Ministry of Commerce clarified that approval from the Central Government would be required for imports.

The notification states that direct or indirect import of all the items coming from Pakistan or from there, whether independently importable or otherwise permission is obtained, will be banned with immediate effect to further order. This ban has been imposed in the interest of national security and public policy. Any exception to this ban will require prior approval of the Government of India.
