New Delhi, 15 May (IANS). US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that India offered bilateral trade agreement with the US, originally proposed that no tariff would be imposed on a range of American goods.
During a meeting with business officials in Doha, the capital of Qatar, Trump said, “They are offering us a deal in which they are basically ready to collect any tariff from us.”
However, detailed information about this is not given by Trump.
The US President also said that he asked Apple CEO Tim Cook to leave his plan to set up more manufacturing plants in India and focus on the construction of these plants in the US instead.
“Apple will increase its production in the United States,” Trump said.
As part of the ongoing discussions on the Indo-US bilateral trade agreement, representatives of India’s Department of Commerce and American Trade Representative Office discussed to complete the first phase of bilateral trade agreement by 2025 autumn (September-October) at a meeting in Washington on 23-25 April.
This was followed by the first bilateral discussions in New Delhi in March 2025.
The Ministry of Commerce said, “During meetings at Washington, DC, the team held useful discussions on the widespread topics covering tariffs and non-tariff matters. The team discussed the path to complete the first phase of the first phase of the first phase of the multi-regional bilateral trade agreement, which includes mutual beneficial, multi-regional bilateral trade agreement.
The statement said that the producers of productive sectoral expert levels have been participated through the virtual format, while in-Persen sectoral participation has been scheduled since the end of May.
It further states that productive discussions are part of bilateral efforts to increase and expand Indo-US economic relations and supply chain integration through bilateral trade agreement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Washington in February this year, held a first-round conversation with Trump for a multi-regional bilateral trade agreement by the autumn of 2025.
Both leaders resolved to deepen the US-India trade relations to promote development by ensuring fairness, national security and employment generation.
For this purpose, both the leaders set an adventure new target ‘Mission 500’ for bilateral trade, which aims to more than double the total bilateral trade by 2030 to $ 500 billion.
