New Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS) India and the US have announced a $1 billion partnership to secure the global clean energy supply chain to take advantage of the growing use of clean energy, including creating high-quality jobs, accelerating the transition to clean energy and achieving global climate goals, the government said in a statement on Sunday.
This funding will be used to expand the supply chain of solar, wind, battery, energy grid systems and high-capacity ACs and fans.
“We are committed to working together to harness the power of the growing use of clean energy as a key element of our economic growth agenda,” Sarkar said after the meeting between President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the 6th Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware.
Both countries aim to expand manufacturing capacity in clean energy technology.
Both governments have promised to work with industry leaders with primary focus on solar wafers and wafer manufacturing, next generation solar cells, wind turbine nacelle equipment, power transmission line equipment including conductors, cabling, transformers and next generation technologies, energy storage devices including batteries, battery packs for 2- and 3-wheel electric vehicles and equipment for zero-emission e-buses and trucks and high-efficiency air conditioners and ceiling fans.
A commitment has been made to partner with the private sector to support an initial package of pilot projects for both countries, ideally including a project focused on clean energy deployment in Africa.
