New Delhi, 26 May (IANS). NITI Aayog member and economist Dr. Arvind Virmani said on Monday that India would overtake Germany by 2028 to become the third largest economy in the world after the US and China.
Talking to the news agency IANS, Dr. Arvind Virmani said, “I create an index based on data every year, called VIP Index of Economic Power. Based on last year’s data, this index is showing that India’s economic power is ahead of Japan. I estimate that the economy of India will go ahead in the next two years.”
He added, “In 2025 we will be the fourth largest economy in the world and at the same time, IMF is also estimated in 2027 or 2028. We will beat Germany and become the third largest economy in the world.”
On the atmosphere of global uncertainty, a member of the NITI Aayog said that the Government of India is continuously working keeping this situation in mind. Recently we have done Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Britain. Similarly, we are also trying to make business agreements with America and Europe.
Virmani from IANS said, “Such agreements will increase the confidence of investors and easily increase investment in the country with trade.”
Recently, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog, BVR Subrahmanyam said that India has left behind Japan and has become the fourth largest economy in the world and will now remove Germany in the next 2.5 to 3 years to reach third place.
Subrahmanyam said at the press conference of the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting, “When I am speaking, we are the fourth largest economy in the world and 4 trillion dollars GDP and this is not my data. It is IMF data. Today India is a bigger economy than Japan.”
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in the World Economic Outlook April 2025 that India’s nominal GDP would increase to $ 4,187.017 billion in 2025. At the same time, Japan’s GDP is estimated to be $ 4,186.431 billion.
