New Delhi, 14 May (IANS). India has successfully tested the state-of-the-art, low-cost hard-cost hard-loving drone system ‘Bhargawastra’, strengthening its capabilities against drone attacks. The test was conducted on Wednesday at the Credit Firing Range in Gopalpur, Odisha.
The system has been developed by indigenously solar Defense and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) and is considered to be an important achievement in India’s defense capabilities, especially it is quite effective in neutralizing dangers such as drone sworm (herd).
During the test, the system’s micro rockets successfully achieved all the performance standards. On May 13, three separate tests were conducted, in which two individual rockets were fired and one in an Salvo mode, where two rockets were fired in a gap of only two seconds. All rockets met the fixed launch parameters.
The ‘Bhargwastra’ can identify and destroy them at a distance of up to 2.5 km and destroy them. Its first defense level is based on non-directed micro rockets, which can eliminate multiple drones in a deadly range of 20 meters.
The second level is based on the guided micro missile, which attacks goals with accuracy. This system is capable of functioning effectively in high mountainous regions (more than 5,000 meters). Its design is a modular, which can also include soft-cill techniques such as jamming and spufting.
It is also fully equipped with India’s current network-centric warfare system. This includes advanced C4I (command, control, communications, computer and intelligence) techniques. Radars are capable of detecting subtle air threats at a distance of 6 to 10 km.
SDAL has described it as a completely indigenous technology, in which both rockets and micro-mesile have been developed in the country.
The company says that while many countries are developing such technologies around the world, the cost-skilled and multi-layered system like ‘Bhargwastra’ has not been deployed anywhere yet.
This test is not only another milestone under the “Make in India” initiative, but also an important step towards further strengthening the country’s air security.
