The impact of the government’s emphasis on green energy is beginning to be visible. India is progressing rapidly in the renewable energy sector. The capacity of renewable energy is continuously increasing in the country. Giving information about this on Tuesday, Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Prahlad Joshi said that in the April-November period of the current financial year 2024-25, India’s renewable energy capacity almost doubled to 15 gigawatts on an annual basis. This reflects India’s commitment towards the target of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030.
Result of Prime Minister’s visionary thinking
Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) International Energy Conference and Exhibition 2024, Joshi said that in fact, in the last decade, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has paved an extraordinary path in the renewable energy sector. Today India is one of the best countries in the world in the field of clean energy. He said that between April-November of the current financial year, India has added about 15 gigawatt of renewable energy capacity, which is almost double the 7.54 gigawatt added in the same period last year. Currently, the total installed capacity of India’s non-fossil fuel sector has reached 214 GW, which is 14 percent more than the same month last year.
Big change coming in energy sector
He said that the government is bringing changes in the entire energy sector. This change is driven by the conviction that the goal of a developed India by 2047 is linked to sustainable and green growth. The blueprint for this transformation is ambitious but achievable. He said that India is strongly committed to achieving the target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel based generation capacity by 2030. The minister said that 2.3 GW of new capacity was added last month alone, which means a four-fold increase from the 566.06 MW added in November 2023.
Change is not a dream, it is reality
So yes, this change is not just a dream, it is really happening, he insisted. He said that the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) scheme has been launched with an outlay of Rs 24,000 crore to promote domestic manufacturing of solar panels and modules. We are also in the process of setting up 50 solar parks with a cumulative capacity of 38 GW by 2025-26, the minister said.
