India's data center capacity increased by 77 percent to 1.8 GW by 2027

Mumbai, April 9 (IANS). India’s data center industry is ready for strong growth, which is expected to increase by 77 percent to 1.8 GW by 2027. This information was given in a latest report on Wednesday.

This strong expansion in the data center industry took place in 2024 after crossing the 1 GW milestone. The industry is performing strong 24 percent CAGR from 2019.

According to JLL’s report, the demand for cloud service providers and the rapidly growing AI region establishes India as an emerging power in the scenario of global digital infrastructure to India.

Mumbai has emerged as a leader in the data center market in India, holding 52 percent of the total capacity of the country.

This dominance highlights Mumbai’s important role in India’s digital infrastructure and its status as the country’s data hub.

In this sequence, Chennai is second after Mumbai, where India’s data center is 21 percent of the capacity.

Interestingly, Bangalore, called Silicon Valley of India and established in the established tech hubs like Hyderabad, is 7-7 percent of the country’s data center capacity.

JLL’s APAC lead (Data Center Collection Leasing) composed Mohan said, “Bharat AI Mission will promote AI adoption in all fields, which will contribute to the $ 1 trillion digital economy.

Mohan said, “The future demand growth is expected to affect the adverse conditions of the US dissemination policy, which restrictions the transfer of advanced technology.”

BFSI (Banking, Financial Services and Insurance) and Technology contribute 18 percent and 12 percent respectively in sector occupancy.

The Indian Data Center Industry recorded a great growth in the second half of 2024 (July-December). The supply increased by 51 percent on an annual basis, reaching 114 MW.

“The Indian Data Center industry is ready for rapid growth. This rapid technology and assistant government policies will be seen,” said JLL Chief Economist and REIS, India Chief Samantak Das.

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act and the rules coming with it are ready to change the data security scenario.
