New Delhi, 5 May (IANS). The Ministry of Mines said on Monday that the production of major minerals like iron ore, manganese ore, bauxite and lead in the country has been on the all-time high in FY 2024-25 even after reaching record level in FY 2023-24.
The production of iron ore, which holds a 70 per cent share in total mineral production, increased to 289 million metric tons (MMT) in FY 2024-25, in which a record production of the last financial year 2023-24 has recorded an increase of 4.3 per cent from 277 MMT.
The manganese ore production in FY 2024-25 has been 3.8 MMT, which is 11.8 percent more than the 3.4 MMT production recorded in FY 2023-24.
Bauxite production has increased by 2.9 percent to 24.7 MMT in FY 2024-25, which was 24 MMT in FY 2023-24. During the same period, lead production increased by 3.1 percent to 381 thousand tons (THT) to 393 THT.
Primary aluminum production in the FY 2024-25 in the louh metal field has also broken the record of FY 2023-24. Primary aluminum production increased from 41.6 lakh tonnes (LT) to 42 LT during FY 2024-25 in FY 2023-24. In addition, there was a strong growth of 12.6 percent in the production of processed copper, which increased from 5.09 LT in FY 2023-24 to 5.73 LT in FY 2024-25.
India is the second largest aluminum producer in the world, one of the top-10 producers of processed copper and the fourth largest iron ores in the world. The continuous increase in production of iron ore in the current financial year reflects the strong demand for steel which is the major user industry for these metal.
The statement said that users such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive and machinery indicate strong economic activity in the industry.
